Winter Nudes

I am a sucker for black and white, and I love to experiment with bright, bold hues; but nothing is more simplistic than wearing a nude, muted color palette in the Winter. The most awesome thing about wearing a palette of colors that are "barely there" is the fact that you don't have to be so "matchy - matchy!" You can take hues of rose, blush, tan, khaki, cream, white, off white etc. and create a visual masterpiece of soft, warm colors.

GOING NO WHERE
Have you ever had a day where you just wanted to dress up for no reason? Well, yep that was me on Saturday. No where to go, but I still wanted to throw on a pair of cute pumps and get my "Carrie" on (from Sex in the City). The basis of the outfit is a party dress that I picked up a few years back from H&M. When I bought the dress I was drawn to the intricate detail at the bottom. So I knew with this outfit, I wanted to let the bottom of the skirt do most of the talking. My readers know I am the queen of remixing an outfit to make it look fresh. So instead of wearing the dress as is, I decided to add a crisp white button up on top, and layer it with a nude faux fur vest. I finished off the look with my nude pumps and wallah...there you have it. A perfect ensemble in a subdued color palette.

The details: Blush - Colored Dress (H&M), White Button Up (K&G), Faux Fur Vest (Forever 21), Nude Pumps (Forever 21), Snakeskin Clutch (Target), Rose Gold Watch (Gifted), Necklace (Gifted)

Happy Monday to you all! Have a great productive day.

Over the holidays my hubby and I were fortunate to be able to fly to the west coast and spend time with his family and my older brother and his family. The two week vacay was a much needed change of scenery. We crammed a lot of eating, gathering with friends, site seeing, traveling, shopping, and catching up on Dexter (Seasons 2 - 4), and of course multiple coffee runs to Starbucks (the birth place of Starbucks) while in Seattle. And I must admit, I had an awesome time. Here's a brief rundown of some of the Seattle highlights!

Caged In Red

There's this red skirt in my closet that I've been wanting to wear for a while now. So, I thought Sunday would be the perfect opportunity to dust it off and put it into rotation. The cool thing about the skirt is I bought it thrifting and purchased it for under $7. You can't beat a price like that for a skirt made with amazing quality that offers such a bold hue! I partnered the skirt with a denim button up, a cheetah print scarf, chocolate beanie, brown riding boots, and brown leather jacket! The red lip and gold framed aviators pulled the ensemble together flawlessly to create my "caged in red" look.

LADY IN RED
Skirt (Thrifted): Goodwill, Denim Button Up: Target, Cheetah Scarf: Charlotte Russe, Beanie, Leather Jacket, & Riding Boots: Forever 21, Aviators: Aldo
*Special thanks to my photographer (the hubby), who is getting better with time :)

Although I'm not a huge fan of cold temperatures (even though I'm originally from Michigan...how ironic) I love winter apparel: Boots, tights, leather jackets, scarves etc. What's your favorite winter apparel? Do you live in a place who's climate allows you to take full potential in Winter wardrobe styling? I hope you have an awesome, productive day. Happy Monday luvs!

Travel Files: Vancouver Canada Edition

While I was in Seattle over the Christmas holiday I was able to travel to Vancouver, Canada with my fam (my big bro, his wife, and daughter, plus the hubby) for a day trip! We took the Amtrak from Everett, WA up to Vancouver (the Canadian side). Shopped, ate, and went site seeing before hopping back on the train to travel back to the US. I didn't know what to expect, but I must admit from my short preview of Vancouver...I LOVE IT! I definitely need to go back during the summer months when I can truly enjoy the scenery, weather, good eats, and of course shopping. Here's a little recap on our mini vacation within a vacation.

TRAIN RIDE UP TO VANCOUVER
On the way to Vancouver there were amazing photo opps that were absolutely breathtaking! Don't believe me? Check it out below.

IN THE CITY
Vancouver is absolutely beautiful. The city has great charm, like a West Coast New York city!

THE ART OF LAYERING
Being that we went to Vancouver on a day trip, I had to bring everything I needed to make the trip worth while. Passports, my camera, iPad, iphone, etc. Basically, I looked like a tourist. Not to mention there were cooler temperatures. So, I had to layer to keep warm. I chose a simple pallet all in the same color family to pull off the "art of layering." My army green tee (Forever 21), black skinny jeans (Old Navy), Leather Biker Jacket (H&M), Jessica Simpson Overcoat (Macy's), Fur Vest (Forever 21), Black Scarf (gifted), Suede Hat (Forever 21), and Rain Boots (DSW) rounded out my "tourist" look.

It was a bit gloomy on the day we went. Thank God it didn't rain. But overall I had a great time in Vancouver. I will definitely be adding Vancouver on my travel list! Where are some of your favorite places to travel?
