Remember back in the mid 90s when Bad Boy had the Rap Game & R&B lane on L-O-C-K! You know they had the likes of Craig Mack, B.I.G, Mase, The Lox, Mary J. Blige, Faith, Lil' Kim, 112, Carl Thomas etc. You couldn't go an hour without hearing "All About the Benjamin's" or "Cupid" on the radio.
Oh how I miss the days of old, when music actually did make you feel good, but also MADE SOME SENSE!! To pay homage to the reign of Bad Boy today's #ThrowbackThursday is dedicated to a fashion forward trend that popped up in the 90's (thanks to one of my fashion icons, and the stylist architect...Mrs. June Ambrose). You know what I'm talking about...the SHINY SUITS! You remember the Mo' Money Mo' Problems video when June styled Mase and Puffy (P. Diddy, Diddy, Sean Combs...whatever you want to call him) in the candy apple red metallic shiny suits.
Clips from the Mo' Money Mo' Problems Video
Diddy doing what he does best...ENTERTAINING
Mase & Diddy playing it up for the cameras...in their shiny suits
Mase with the shiny red sweatshirt...by the way, I had the hugest crush on him back in middle school lol
Biggie with the shiny red jacket (R.I.P)
The Lox....Jadakiss in the cinnamon colored shiny trench
This innovative style almost didn't make the cut. In an interview with June Ambrose she said she showed the famed music video director Hype Williams her concept of the shiny suits and he absolutely loved it. But when she displayed the garment to Diddy he was NOT feeling it AT ALL!!!!!! She asked him simply to "trust" her and her gut feeling. And we see it paid off in the end.
The shiny suit has evolved into a much more sophisticated tailored piece than the over sized jumpsuits and two pieces of old.
Jonas Brothers with the updated shiny suits
Gray shiny suit
Zach Efron with the tailored maroon shiny suit...I love the fit on him
And to think it all started from a woman with a plan. Just an intern who dared to be different. The lesson in today's #ThrowbackThursday is to DARE TO DREAM! BE FEARLESS! CREATE YOUR OWN LANE! And people will catch up eventually :)
Here is the Mo' Money Mo' Problem s video which launched this fashion phenomenon back in the 90s.
